New Ford Focus CNG model - only for Germany??

Post by S-klasse »

It looks like Ford will release a new Focus CNG model during April with 5 CNG tanks built in :

http://www.gas24.de/cms/208-0-ford-focu ... rsion.html

For more technical details :

http://www.gas24.de/cms/31-0-modelle-er ... tml?s=1157

It would then be the only CNG factory car in that size and sort of car since most new CNG models are small MPV's, e.g. the new Opel and VW models.

I thought there was already a CNG version of the standard Focus model on the German market, not only the C-Max version. Does anyone know more about this??

Anyway, if the CNG technic can be built in to the Focus platform it should be possible to build into the Volvo S40 and V50 as well. But I guess we'll see neither of them on the Swedish market.

Hej S-klasse,
please have a look at this two links.
You will find further information about Ford and alternative fuels.

Thanks for the links!

What confused me earlier about the existance of a standard Ford Focus CNG was that there has been information about a Focus CNG for a long time at : http://www.erdgasfahrzeuge.de/appFrameset.html but with no date stated for this coming model.

Had a quick look at the swedish Ford homepage and the only CNG alternative available in Sweden is a CNG version of the Ford Transit model. For the different Focus versions the only alternativ is the E85 Flexifuel.

The only possibility to buy a CNG Focus in Sweden for now would probably be through specialist import companies, e.g. http://www.miljobilscenter.com/main.htm

Perhaps there will be a change in the Swedish market now since there are changes coming in the next couple of years, financial support of 10000 SEK if you buy a new environmentally friendly car, financial support for companies building CNG/CBG fuel stations that could double the number of fuel stations and from 2008 it might be legal to convert your car to CNG.

Hej s-klasse,
since 1999 all Ford CNG Vehicles are developed and produced by CNG-Technik GmbH located in Mainz(next to Frankfurt on Main).
The cars are not produced at a assembly line, the engine need some parts especially for CNG(the local dealer knows what he has to order) and all other equipment is added additional.
It took a long time to design new Ford Focus (II).The picture and data of the Ford Focus on the website of erdgasfahrzeuge.de were only appetizer.

I had a look at the website of Ford Sweden as well and I agree with you that the Ford Ford CNG(II) and FORD C-MAX(facelifted) are not available.
I have sent a message to Ford Cologne to find out why you can't buy any Ford CNG car in Sweden. As soon as I get a responce I will let you know.

You can order the 3-door and 5-door-limousine of the Ford Focus by now
at the local dealer in germany, but I don't know the actual delivery time(perhaps when the webmaster has updated the german website of Ford).

greeting

Thanks for the clarifications about the CNG Focus!

So the earlier version was "factory converted". I think some more CNG models are produced the same way, e.g. the MB 200 NGT model is sent to CNG convertion and it is sometimes not even visible as its own model in the lists but only stated as an NGT option that you order with the 200 Kompressor model.

I guess the most interresting question about the new CNG Focus from a Swedish perspective is if the Volvo S40/V50 that share the same base as the Focus could also benefit from this CNG development?

Någon som frågat Ford i Sverige om dom avser att ta in den till Sverige själva?
